Condena la RIPVG crimen contra periodista Maria Elena Ferral

Este asesinato evidencia fallas, omisiones y negligencia de las instituciones mexicanas “ella ya había sido amenazada, pero la impunidad y la falta de protección, dejó la puerta abierta a los asesinos”, señala la Red Internacional de Periodistas con Visión de Género.
La Red Internacional de Periodistas con Visión de Género (RIPVG) expresó su más enérgica condena por el asesinato perpetrado contra la periodista Maria Elena Ferral Hernández, corresponsal del Diario de Xalapa y el Heraldo de Poza Rica, registrado en Papantla, Veracruz (México) este lunes 30 de marzo.
“Este asesinato da cuenta de un contexto de violencia muy grave en contra de quienes ejercen el periodismo en México, evidencia fallas, omisiones y negligencia de las instituciones que están obligadas a prevenir, investigar y sancionar la violencia contra mujeres periodistas, particularmente en el caso de Maria Elena, que ya había sufrido amenazas por su labor informativa”, señaló está organización que agrupa a periodistas de 36 países.
“Estos hechos evidencian claramente que la impunidad imperante, la falta de acceso a la justicia y protección a la que tenía derecho, después de ser amenazada, dejó la puerta abierta a quienes hoy, le arrebataron la vida a la periodista”, agrega el comunicado dirigido al presidente de México Andrés Manuel López Obrador así como al Gobernador de Veracruz Cuitláhuac García Jiménez.
La Red Internacional de Periodistas exigió al Estado Mexicano investigar este asesinato con exhaustividad, celeridad y efectividad, atendiendo en todo momento la línea relacionada con su labor periodística y con una perspectiva de género.
Asimismo, demandó asegurar el acceso a la justicia de manera pronta y expedita, sancionando a los responsables de este asesinato así como de las amenazas de las que fue víctima la periodista, además de garantizar a sus familiares, las medidas de seguridad y protección suficientes y efectivas.
“México es considerado como uno de los países más peligrosos para ejercer el periodismo en el mundo y Veracruz es el estado que ocupa el primer lugar nacional en homicidios de periodistas, al registrarse en esa entidad, 23 asesinatos, de los 153 cometidos en todo el territorio nacional del 2000 a noviembre del 2019. De estos 153 crímenes, 16 fueron contra mujeres periodistas; 3 de ellas en ese estado”, agrega.
El pronunciamiento de la RIPVG también fue dirigido al Fiscal Especial para la Atención de Delitos Cometidos contra la Libertad de Expresión (FEADLE) Ricardo Sánchez Pérez del Pozo, a Aarón Mastache Mondragón, Coordinador del Mecanismo de Protección a Personas Defensoras de Derechos Humanos y Periodistas (MPPDDHyP) y a la Presidenta de la Comisión Nacional de Derechos Humanos (CNDH) Maria del Rosario Piedra Ibarra.
Quienes integran esta Red Internacional, hicieron un llamado puntual para que cese la violencia contra mujeres periodistas y comunicadoras en México.
“Es urgente corregir las deficiencias que día a día se cometen en las investigaciones de los delitos cometidos contra periodistas, que sólo fomentan la impunidad y fortalecer los mecanismos de prevención, protección y respuesta judicial para garantizar el pleno ejercicio de la libertad de expresión y el derecho de la sociedad mexicana a ser informada”

The International Network of Journalists with a Gender Vision (RIPVG) expresses its strongest condemnation for the murder perpetrated against the journalist Maria Elena Ferral Hernández, correspondent for the Diario de Xalapa and the Herald of Poza Rica, registered in Papantla, Veracruz (Mexico) east Monday, March 30.
This murder accounts for a very serious context of violence against those who practice journalism in Mexico; evidences failures, omissions and negligence of the institutions that are obliged to prevent, investigate and punish violence against women journalists, particularly in the case of Maria Elena, who had already suffered threats for her information work.
These facts clearly demonstrate that the prevailing impunity, the lack of access to justice and protection to which she was entitled, after being threatened, left the door open for those who today took the journalist's life.
Mexico is considered one of the most dangerous countries to practice journalism in the world and Veracruz is the state that occupies the first national place in murders of journalists, when 23 murders were registered in that entity, of the 153 committed throughout the territory national from 2000 to November 2019. Of these 153 crimes, 16 were against female journalists; 3 of them in that state.
Those of us who make up this International Network of Journalists with a Gender Vision Today we say Enough!
We demand from the Mexican State:
- Investigate exhaustively, quickly and effectively, attending at all times to the line related to their journalistic work and with a gender perspective.
- Ensure access to justice promptly and expeditiously, punishing those responsible for this murder as well as the threats to which he was a victim.
- Guarantee to the victim's family members sufficient and effective security and protection measures.
- That family members and legal representatives be informed clearly and regularly about the progress of the investigations.
We also make a timely call for:
- Stop violence against women journalists and communicators in Mexico.
- Correct the deficiencies that are committed every day in investigations of crimes committed against journalists, which only promote impunity.
- And strengthen security and the mechanisms of prevention, protection and judicial response to guarantee the full exercise of freedom of expression and the right of Mexican society to be informed.
